The Brief

‘Visual Stories’. This brief allowed for me to express my ideas and thoughts to the extent where I could see the start of potential outcomes and development from the beginning. ‘Visual Stories’ could relate to many different ideas; it could focus towards life events, portraits, fashion or personality. I was instantly drawn to the idea of illustration. Through previous artist research I discovered that I am most intrigued by illustration. Although I am certain of the illustrative concept of the topic I am indecisive of a route to consider, I could focus towards fashion illustration or family illustration, to overcome this uncertainty I will be looking at artists’ work that contrasts each other and compare. Presenting a mind map proved helpful as my initial interpretation was spread across a single page which I could refer back to during my project. The mediums, materials and themes that were brainstormed gave me the criteria and content that could enable me to have a variety of tactile features within my research. My preferred technique and way of working steers towards digital art and the use of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Being confident in this style means I can expand my work and add handmade elements on top of them. When beginning the project I aim to explore a range of artist which focus on digital illustration, however as the artist research continues and my confidence and knowledge of the topic, ‘visual stories’ expands, I will be interpreting many mediums into each other to make my work individually stronger and more visually successful. Constantly observing, reviewing and refining my work will result in me recognizing the qualities and my natural strengths, this then means I can expand on these strength to create outcomes and pursue a final piece.
